LED Marine and Boat Lights Built for Saltwater

Comlite manufactures LED marine lights for leisure boats, yachts and commercial vessels. The range covers thru-hull underwater lights, surface mount deck and transom lights, mast and flood lights, and the controllers that drive RGB installations — built for 12V and 24V marine systems and for continuous contact with saltwater.

Marine lighting splits on one question: is the fitting above or below the waterline? Below-water fittings have to hold a seal against constant immersion and hull flex, so housing material and cable entry matter more than output. Above-water fittings are judged on beam pattern and glare. Choose the mounting first, then the voltage, then the beam.

Schnell-Auswahlhilfe

  • Durch Montage: thru-hull underwater lights sit flush with the hull and light the water below; surface mount lights screw onto transoms, decks and hardtops.
  • By voltage: most leisure boats run 12V DC; larger yachts and workboats run 24V. Check the system before specifying.
  • By material: 316L stainless steel for anything below the waterline or in constant spray. Lower grades pit in chloride-rich water.
  • By function: underwater lights for night fishing and dockside ambience, flood and mast lights for working decks, RGB sets for entertainment lighting.

Wir bauen auch underwater fishing lights, IP68 pool and fountain lights und LED-Bodeneinbauleuchten on the same sealing discipline. RGB installations are driven by our marine RGB controller. LED Marine Lights: Vollständiger Spezifikationsleitfaden

Comlite manufactures LED marine lights for vessels and waterfront structures: underwater boat and yacht lights, surface mounted marine lights, and marine flood and deck lights. Every model in this range is built for continuous exposure to saltwater, using IP68 sealing, 316L stainless steel housings and marine-grade cable glands.

Saltwater is the harshest environment an LED fixture will meet. Chloride attacks metal, UV degrades polymers, and wave action cycles pressure on every seal. This page explains what to specify — and what to avoid — when you are buying marine lighting for a boat, a yacht or a waterfront installation.

Underwater Boat Lights: Transom vs Thru-Hull

Transom / Surface Mounted

Mounted on the outside of the hull above or just below the waterline, transom lights do not require drilling below the waterline. Installation is straightforward and the fitting can be replaced with the boat afloat. The light spread is wide but shallower. This is the right choice for most retrofit projects and for owners who do not want a haul-out. Browse surface mount marine lights.

Thru-Hull

Thru-hull lights pass through the hull so the lens sits flush, giving a cleaner hydrodynamic profile and deeper, more even underwater coverage. They require a hole below the waterline and proper bedding, so installation is a professional job — typically scheduled with a haul-out. See underwater boat and yacht lights.

Marine Flood and Deck Lights

Not every light on a boat goes underwater. Deck and flood lights handle working tasks: loading gear, cleaning the catch, navigating the deck at night, and lighting a working area on a commercial vessel. These are mounted above the waterline where IP65 or IP66 is usually sufficient — but on a saltwater boat, corrosion resistance still matters as much as the ingress rating. See marine flood and deck lights.

What Makes a Light "Marine Grade"

The term is used loosely across the industry. These are the four things actually worth checking:

  • Ingress protection. IP68 for anything permanently submerged; IP65-IP66 is acceptable for above-waterline deck and flood lights.
  • Housing material. 316L stainless steel or marine-grade bronze for submerged fittings. 304 stainless will stain and pit; aluminium will corrode in saltwater unless specially treated.
  • Cable entry. A moulded, potted gland rather than a compression grommet. The cable entry is where most marine lights fail, not the lens.
  • UV and corrosion testing. Ask whether the housing and lens were tested under UV exposure and salt spray, not just submerged in fresh water on a bench.

Comlite builds this range in 316L stainless steel with anti-UV and anti-corrosion testing in seawater conditions. Test reports covering UV exposure and salt spray corrosion can be supplied with your quotation.

Spannung: 12V and 24V Marine Systems

Most leisure boats and small commercial vessels run 12V DC. Larger yachts and workboats commonly run 24V DC. Our marine range covers both, and several models accept a wide 12V-24V input so the same part number serves either system.

Two sizing notes. Erste, total the wattage of all lights on a circuit and check it against your battery capacity and charge source — a bank of high-output underwater lights is a significant overnight load. Zweite, use tinned copper marine cable and adequately rated fusing; voltage drop over a long run to the transom is a common cause of lights that appear dim or flicker.

Anwendungen

Underwater Transom Lighting on Yachts

Usually a pair or a spread of blue or white lights across the transom, both for aesthetics at anchor and for attracting bait at night. RGBW models allow colour changes from the helm.

Fishing Boats and Workboats

Here the priority is output, durability and serviceability rather than appearance. Green underwater lights for bait attraction, plus high-output deck lighting for working after dark.

Docks, Marinas and Waterfront Structures

Fixed installations on piles and pontoons. Because these lights cannot easily be retrieved, specify 316L stainless housings and confirm cable length before ordering.

Our Marine Lighting Range

Warum bei Comlite beziehen

Our marine range is derived from the same engineering as our deep sea fishing lights, which are pressure-tested to depths far beyond anything a hull or transom fitting will meet. That means the sealing, housing and cable-entry design on a transom light has already been proven under loads it will never see — which is exactly the margin you want in a fitting you cannot easily retrieve.

  • 316L stainless steel as standard across the marine range
  • Wide 12V-24V input on selected models
  • Anti-UV and anti-corrosion tested for seawater service
  • OEM and wholesale supply, with private labelling available

Häufig gestellte Fragen

Do I need a thru-hull or a transom mounted underwater light?

Transom mounted lights sit on the hull surface and do not require drilling below the waterline, so installation is simpler and the boat can stay afloat. Thru-hull lights sit flush and give deeper, more even coverage, but need a haul-out and professional bedding.

What is the difference between 304 und 316 stainless steel on a boat?

316 contains molybdenum, which significantly improves resistance to chloride pitting. In saltwater, 304 will stain and pit over time while 316L holds up. For any submerged marine fitting, specify 316L.

Can I use a normal outdoor LED flood light on a boat?

Not for submerged use, and not ideally above the waterline either. Standard outdoor fittings are not designed for salt spray or for the constant vibration of a hull, and their housings are usually aluminium or coated steel.

Do your marine lights run on 12V or 24V?

Both. Most models in our marine range accept a wide 12V-24V DC input. Check the specification of the individual model before ordering.
