LED Landscape Lights: Complete Specification Guide
Comlite manufactures outdoor LED landscape lights: spotlights, garden spike lights, flood lights and RGBW 4in1 colour-changing fixtures for gardens, parks, villas and commercial landscapes. Our landscape range is IP65 rated, built with adjustable brackets and supplied with spike or surface mounts for fast installation.
Good landscape lighting is mostly a matter of restraint — where you put the light matters far more than how much of it there is. This page covers the fixture types, the beam angles worth knowing, and the colour decisions that separate a professional scheme from an over-lit one.
Fixture Types
Landscape Spotlights
Narrow-to-medium beam fixtures on adjustable brackets, used to pick out a specific target: a tree, a sculpture, a section of wall. This is the most versatile fitting in any scheme and the one we supply in the widest range. See LED landscape spotlights.

Garden Spike Lights
Spotlights on a ground spike, pushed directly into soil or mulch. They can be repositioned as planting matures, which makes them the practical choice for gardens where the scheme will evolve. See LED garden spike lights.
Flood and Wash Lights
Wide-beam fixtures for lighting large surfaces — lawns, hedges, facades. Used sparingly; wide-beam light is the fastest way to make a garden look flat.
Beam Angle: The Number That Gets Ignored
Beam angle determines the shape of the light, and it is the specification most often left to default. Rough guide:
COB 1x6W and 3x5W LED landscape light for tree uplighting
25-40° — medium beam. The general-purpose range for most garden uplighting and wall grazing.
40-60° — wide flood. Hedgerows, lawns, large facade washes.
60°+ — area lighting. Use with care; this is where glare and light pollution come from.
An adjustable-beam fitting lets you tune this on site, which is worth the premium on any scheme you cannot mock up in advance.
Colour Temperature and RGBW
For planted schemes, warm white (2700-3000K) is almost always the right answer — it renders foliage naturally and reads as inviting. Cool white (4000K+) suits contemporary architecture and security applications but makes gardens look clinical.
RGBW 4in1 fixtures combine red, green, blue and a dedicated white channel in one fitting, so a single installation can do functional white lighting and full colour scenes. This is increasingly specified for hospitality and commercial landscapes where the scheme changes by season or event. Browse RGBW 4in1 landscape lights.
IP Rating and Weather Resistance
IP65 is the practical standard for outdoor landscape fittings — dust-tight and protected against low-pressure water jets from any direction. It handles rain, irrigation and pressure washing.
Landscape lights sit above ground, so unlike inground or underwater fittings they do not need to survive standing water. What does matter is UV stability of the housing and the bracket; a fitting whose bracket yellows and brittles will end up pointing at the ground within a couple of seasons.
Applications
Residential gardens — spike lights and spotlights on warm white, typically 3-6W per fitting
Villa and hotel landscapes — mixed scheme, often with RGBW on feature areas
Parks and public spaces — higher output, vandal-resistant fittings, wider beams
Facade and wall grazing — narrow-beam spotlights mounted close to the wall surface
Pathways and steps — see our LED step and deck lights
Comlite's landscape range is built to the same sealing and material standards as our underwater and marine products — IP65 or better, UV-stable housings, stainless hardware and moulded cable glands. For coastal projects and any scheme near water, that matters: the same salt air that ruins a cheap garden spike light is exactly what our marine range is built to survive.

Frequently Asked Questions
Warm white or cool white for garden lighting?
Warm white (2700-3000K) is the right choice for most planted schemes — it renders foliage naturally and feels inviting. Cool white (4000K+) suits contemporary architecture and security lighting but tends to look clinical in gardens.
What beam angle should I choose?
Use 10-25° for narrow accents like columns and statues, 25-40° for general garden uplighting and wall grazing, and 40-60° for washing hedges and facades. Wider than that, and you start creating glare rather than effect.
Is IP65 enough for outdoor landscape lights?
Yes. IP65 is dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction, which covers rain, irrigation and pressure washing. Only fittings that sit in standing water need IP67 or IP68.
Can I mix RGBW and warm white fittings in one scheme?
Yes, and it is often the best approach — warm white for the functional and planted areas, RGBW on features where you want colour for events or seasons.
